I think it [being made DADA professor in Harry's sixth year] would
be put Snape in a very difficult position to be made DADA teacher,
especially an effective one (and Snape wouldn't have it any other
way) and still maintain his under cover activities. Wouldn't DE's
consider this a conflict of interest?
Tom replies:
Well, we still don't know what Snape is up to in his spy role, do
we? He could be doing anything, really, and might not be involved
with the Death Eaters or Lord Voldemort at all. Lupin, after all,
also vanishes on long trips while he's doing mysterious work for the
Order of the Phoenix. So, let's be careful here and not jump to
conclusions.
As for the idea of Snape as DADA professor and Harry continuing on
with Potions under the tutelage of another Potions-master, I like
that. However, if there's one thing OoP taught me, it's that we
really have no clue as to how this story is progressing. We guess,
and guess in bits and pieces: interesting observation: in the two
polls we had on who would die in OoP, only 3.55% and 4.67%
respectively thought that Sirius would be the one to die. We weren't
even close!
So, on that note, I can't decide whether JKR even wants Harry to
*be* an Auror. I mean, let's face it - he hasn't put any time into
this decision... he just said it for lack of any real decision, and
he just sorta thinks it would be cool. It's like everything Harry
does, except for Quidditch and the DA: he's not truly committed, and
this is just an idea. Maybe he'll change his mind when he takes some
time to really think about it.
