The Pensieve Snape was using belonged to Dumbledore. I just finished
rereading the book, and it said in two different places that it was
Dumbledore's Pensieve. The book does not say one way or the other, but I
would think Dumbledore cleaned his thoughts out of it before letting Snape
borrow it. I think he only had those thoughts in the Pensieve for a limited
time, to help him make some connections with things related to the trials we
saw and the people involved. Which does make me wonder if you can only put
thoughts in there for a limited time. Otherwise why wouldn't Snape just go
buy his own Pensieve and leave those thoughts he keeps taking out in there
permanently?
