As I was rereading Dumbledore's speech near the end of OOP where he
confesses how much he cares for Harry and weeps, I had a sudden
thought. Dumbledore says he has watched Harry closely and implies
that he has been deeply grieved by the pain Harry had had to endure
over his short life. JKR seemed to confirm this in a recent interview.

I had a brainflash back to SS where Harry asks Dumbledore what he sees
when he looks into the Mirror of Erised, i.e. what is Dumbledore's
heart's desire. Given that we now know how much he loves Harry,
perhaps what Dumbledore sees is -- an eleven year old Harry, come to
Hogwarts happy and well-nourished, with no trace of a scar on his
forehead.
