Everyone in the Order is a spy when you get right down to it. I
mean, not everyone believed Voldemort was back and it's not like
they could tell the whole world they were all in a secret society
fighting against Voldemort. Think of Mr. Weasly, Kingsley and Tonks
working at the Ministry of Magic.
Anyway my point is that maybe Snape's work doens't involve direct
contact with Voldemort or his Death Eaters. If it did, I highly
doubt he would still be alive. We all know how Voldemort and DEs are
about those who've betrayed them- not very forgiving. So yeah, I'm
thinking Snape's duties to the Order involve something else.
Obviously I don't know what that is, but I'm sure it exists. We've
all only assumed what Dumbledore told him to do was to go back to
being a DE. He couldn't do that because of my statement above. There
has never been any evidence to back up these assumptions, it's never
been said what Snape really does. Unless it has and I missed it, if
so I take back that last comment. :-)
