I think Snape removed those memories that he thought were very
similar experiences to Harry's experiences. It seems to have become
common knowledge how he is treated at the Dursleys. Snape did inquire
while reading Harry's memories as to who Dudley was. In addition,
Harry realized a similarity between he and Snape which was why he was
so troubled with his father's and Sirius' behavior as teens. He
empathized with Snape and needed an explanation immediately.
There is more to the relationship between Harry and Snape. After
all, James did save Snape's life.
