The Foe-Glass caught my eye too, when Harry was looking around the room that
first night. JKR specifically notes that shadows are moving in it and Harry
deliberately turns his back on it. I had the impression she was setting up the
Foe-Glass for future use, and was subsequently surprised it didn't turn up in
the scene when Umbridge showed up. Perhaps she originally planned to use it
there but changed her mind? Or perhaps the DA will continue next year (with
DD's permission) and we'll see it used then.
