s rather odd -- JKR [or her editors] made what appears
to have been a major effort to use a word like "Dumpster" so American
readers would understand it -- yet they continue to use
Britishisism like "take the mickey," "skive," and "nick" [granted,
those last to are pretty obvious from context] throughout the story.

Is there rhyme or reason for whether or not Brit/U.S. vernacular is
used?

My reply:
I thought about that too. Of course I did not know there was a different word for dumpster in Britain. I guess they felt that at this point most of the Harry Potter fans are semi-literate in British slang. who knows? Also another interesting point is that the term "jumper" was not changed to sweater. Of course, i think that that jumper/sweater is a pretty commonly known language difference.

So, now what are the differences between the two versions this year. Is it mainly a spelling variation? How many words have actually been changed? Also, this is a question for Canadian members which version does Canada have. I know from being semi-close to the border that the majority of Canada uses the British spelling of words but share more slang terms with the U.S. Do they have their own version?
