That may well be, but I see a big difference between James
and Ron in almost all other ways.
Ron so rarely gets any attention that I can't hold it
against him when he enjoys telling his success story.
I have the feeling, James was used to adoration much more
than Ron ever will be.
Ron has never gone out of his way to demean someone, the way
James did at the same age.
He loses his temper when attacked, which is very different.
James was also considered popular and very talented, and
while I love Ron, I don't think anyone is starting a fanclub
for him at Hogwarts anytime soon.
That spot definitely belongs to Harry.
Does Ron have any close friends besides Harry and Hermione?
During the fight in GoF, he hung out with his brothers and
their friend, I think.
Ron seems like a nice guy, not arrogant, a little low in
self esteem, which is something quite frequently seen in
kids. Not everyone is as self assured as the twins or James
and Sirius, and it certainly doesn't make you a bad person.
I saw Ron's backing off and insecurity, when Harry got angry
as a way of trying to stay friends, and not retaliate and
ruin their relationship. He is certainly able to talk back
to Harry if he wants to (as seen in GoF), and I'm glad Ron
was mature enough not to go there in OotP. He probably
understood why Harry acted the way he did and was worried
about him.
