I don't deny this.  but that implies theres some sort of rank in the houses.  
You go to wherever you fit, unless you have a something of a house "above" 
that one in which case you go to it.

Actually that fits with canon.  remember the sorting hat's song? "And 
Hufflepuff takes the rest" or something of the sort?

Courage, self-sacrifice, honnor, are not mutally exclusive from ambition and 
cunning.

He could have sent a DE to do it, and where would the WW be now then?  He 
doesn't continuously hide behind his men, he goes out and attempts to kill people 
on his own.  If he was a coward he wouldn't do that.

Voldemort is more in line with old chiftens of primitive tribes than he is 
with current leaders.  You were tribe leader because you were the best, not 
because you inherited it, (though I don't think it would be unusual for the son of 
the chief to be the best).  And durring war you were expected to go out 
there, lead the charge, etc.
