Y'know, CareALots -- I thought the same thing!

When Hermione trotted off to the forest with the others in tow, I was
sure she was going to go to where Gawrp was roped, and claim that he
was the "weapon" Dumlbedore had been working on [maybe concocting
some kind of story about how Dumbledore was training this one to be a
soldier, and if he learned well Dumbledore would import a whole tribe
of giants, charm them against the magick of the Ministers, and enlist
them in his Army].

Whether or not Herminone was morally justified to subject her
headmaster to what looked like certain (and extremely painful) death,
it certainly seemed (and still seems) out of character for her.

She's definitely crossed a line -- which will make her very, very
well worth watching in the future. But then Harry crossed a line as
well, when he tried to nail Bellatrix with that "Crucio!" -- even
though it didn't work. Unless I'm mistaken, Harry has never really
intentionally tried to kill or torture anyone before, has he? And
this time, it wasn't self-defense -- he went after her, with intent
to kill, because (he believed) she'd killed Sirius.

Maybe THAT'S why Sirius had to die -- to launch Harry on his path to
learn how to become so angry --or even (at least temporarily) hateful-
- that he could become capable of performing an Unforgivable Curse.

Happy thought --

sunshine into the proceedings
