The Sergeant Majorette says:
As a former hermione, I offer these insights into our girl's
character:
1. Her parents are perfectly satisfied with her. They don't
understand why she wants to change her appearance, and she doesn't,
until an irresistable opportunity presents itself.
2. She cries three times: when she overhears Ron calling her 'a
nightmare'; when Snape insults her; when the boggart she faces in the
DADA final is Prof. McGonagall telling her she failed everything.
That is, she only reacts to the opinions of those she respects/likes.
3. She has a horrific, if slow-burning, temper; she can sustain her
anger long enough to plot elaborate vengeance.
4. Empathy is not her thing. Her sometimes acute insights into the
feelings of others are based on observation of their actions.
Therefore:
Hermione is capable of murder, physically and psychologically.
As for why she trusts Snape: well, first of all, he knows his stuff,
he's a good teacher. I remember wondering why this ballet teacher
hounded me so; somebody said to me "wow, she must really like you..."
And Dumbledore trusts him, as Hermione keeps reminding the others.
