While this is possible, I disagree with your equating the word 
"business" in the phrase "went about his business as usual" as 
referencing his job. The usual referent for "his business" in this 
phrase is "His Life/Lifestyle". IOW, The prosecution and the reports 
of it in the papers did not change his Life/Lifestyle - He went on 
and acted as it it never happened (ie: As he did before the incident).
