Hopefully I can come up with more than 'me too' to say in response to
your post.
I, too, have been concerned about Kreacher's fate. There is no one
left with the Black Family name, and Kreacher's allegiance is to the
House of Black. Yet the Black Family line, and the Black family name
have just died, so Kreacher really has no true binding obligation of
loyalty to anyone.
He does have some loyalty to Mrs. Lestrange & Mrs. Malfoy, but they do
not carry on the House or the Name of Black, so he has no true bond of
servitude to them. However, I think his general loyalty to them would
be enough that he wouldn't hesitate to betray Sirius and the Order.
Given all this, I just don't see how the Order can continue to allow
Kreacher to exist. As uncomfortable a thought as it is, and as much as
Hermione will be appalled, I think Kreacher has gone to the great
taxidermist in the sky, where his head will be stuffed and mounded
along side his ancestors.
Which indirectly ties us back to the issue of inheritance. First, the
issue will not have to be dealt with until it becomes general
knowledge that Sirius is dead. Then when that happens, the only way it
can be resolved quickly and cleanly is if Sirius had a Will.
If Dumbledore is smart he will quickly and quietly resolve the issue
of inheritance behind the scenes before any of the other relatives
have a chance to contest.
It is conceivable that when Black was young, he made a Will that left
everything to Mr. and Mrs. Potter; that could either be James and Lily
or James' parents. Either way, it would seem to that everything would
then be directed to Harry automatically as he is the only living
decendant of James and/or James's father.
As an alternative, for what I can tell of the limited family tree we
have, Arthur Weasley is the only living Male with a tie to the Black
family tree. That could give him priority in a claim against the estate.
Personally, I really want the Weasley's to get it, or if it must be
divided up amoung living relatives, for the Weasley's to get the house
and some substantial cash. I also know a very sad female house elf who
is not to happy serving an institutional master, and who would be more
than thrilled to have a wizard's family to serve again. I could be
easly see Winky taking over as the resident house elf when either
Harry or the Weasley's take over the House of Black.
Also, I can't help hoping that Lupin gets some relief from his
miserable life from the resolution of the Estate of Black.
One thing about the Fidelus Charm that has been performed on the Black
House and the Order of the Phoenix, it seems to prevent people from
divulging any information about the Order including it's location. So
if Harry had tried to tell Umbridge where Sirius was, would he
magically forget the location a split second before he attempted to
speak the words? Would the Fidelus Charm, make his mind go blank on
that subject, if someone tried to probe his mind with Legilimency;
would those memories be force blank by the Charm? Would the charm
block Voldemort's attempt to see throught Harry's eye, if doing so
revealed the location of the Order's headquarters. It would seem that
no one could tell or show anyone where the Order's headquarters is
except Dumbledore. Yet, many people like Harry, Ron, and Hermione seem
quite capable of telling someone about the Order's location. I'm
curious how the Charm would prevent them.
Just a thought.
