I do remeber in the book that Sirius said that he and James used to 
use those mirrors all the time.Ive tried to find the exact page but 
its just too much to go through to find it. I am assuming that he was 
giving Harry his old one or James' old one. I would say that Sirius 
was in such a hurry to go save Harry at the Ministry that he left his 
mirror at the house.
