The prophecy does say that "And the Dark Lord wil mark him as his
equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not..." Though I
suppose that "him" and "he" could be used to mean "one."

If Dumbledore was going to edit the prophecy for content to continue
to deceive Harry, why show him the memory of the prophecy at all?
Why not just tell Harry what the Prophecy said? Then he could just
tell Harry whatever he wanted.

There are also dots used in Trelawney's Prediction in PoA, which
Harry witnessed himself.

<Snipping the COMPLETE prophecy as I have nothing specific to add>

I don't like the idea that Dumbledore is manipulating Harry and
everyone else on such a level. It's dangerous that he's the only one
with this information. Besides, as you said earlier in your post,
Dumbledore is Harry's mentor and protector who has been keeping
things from Harry to keep him safe. This in no way keeps Harry safe,
but in fact puts him in more danger to allow Voldemort and everyone
else to continue believing the prophecy is about Harry. Voldemort
will keep going after Harry and if Harry isn't the one with the power
to stop him, he's not going to last long. I hope that's not how it
goes. And I would hope that Dumbledore has more respect for Harry
than to use him in this manner, particularly because he *has* kept
Harry in the dark so much in the past.

KathyK (who should be looking for grad schools or a better job but is
instead here, reading about Harry Potter)
