see happening here is people deciding that there must be a gay
character somewhere in the books. Once people decide that there must
be a character who is gay in the book, finding someone who fits the
description is fairly easy. It is like the witch hunts (yes pun
intended) of the middle ages. As JKR put it, the people were bad at
telling who was a witch. They used sterotypes and were wrong
frequently. Same thing with the gay issue. people decide who is and
who isnt gay, and frequently dont bother asking the person.
therefore the person is put into the gay box. That is really what i
see happening here. "Sirius and Lupin must be gay because they
imbraced". earlier, I think i was told to be more "mature" and not
to go "no no no dont show us *that* ". I thow the mature issue back
into your teeth. If you are really so mature, you should be mature
enough to handle two men (or women for that matter) embracing

assume that JKR is telling the truth through harry and saying what is
really happening? why dont you trust her? Lets look at the scene.
Lupin aparently thought that Sirius was responsible for james's
death. Also we know that Sirius, james Lupin and peter were best
friends. as in they were best friends. as in of course they loved
each other. It is just not in a sexual way. That is typically why
people are best friends. they *love* being around each other.
People can love their parents. thats not a sexual love. they can
love their family. thats not a sexual love. So sirius and lupin
embrace. they havent seen each other for 12 years minimum. so when
sirius embraces lupin i dont think that it is something that is too
out of the ordinary. To me, it seems that a lot of the people are
looking for complex explanation for a simple act of affection, for
which there is a simple, canonical explanation. Lupin now
> knows that Sirius is not to blame, so they are once again on the
same side. the embrace is similar to a welcoming or greeting
embrace. sure is is not so common now, but how things take place in
our world shouldnt be a reason with this book.
> People have also made the argument that because lupin lives at
blacks house, they must be a couple. Or perhaps, because Lupin is a
member of the Order, and his status as a werewolf makes if hard for
him to get a job and make money, and therefore it is hard to earn a
living, and so he lives at the Order's HQ. Like the Weaselys would
have if anything happened to the parents.

sterotypes, and personally, i dont think that she would choose
sterotypical traits to show who is/is not gay. that is just the feel
i get from her writing. Ultimately people will read what they want
into characters in any book. because all of the relationship stuff
is pretty subjective, just leave it to the fanfic community

You know, I don't like the TBAY posts. I know the people who write
them put a great deal of thought and time into them. There seems to
be a segment of the list that enjoys reading and/or writing them. I
see the heading TBAY, and I skip right over them. And, it doesn't
bother me in the least that those posts show up.

I've also stopped reading the James-Remus switch thread because it
just doesn't make sense to me, no matter how passionately people
argue for it.

And, is Hermione going to end up with Ron or Harry? I don't care. I
skip those posts, too.

So, if the discussions on whether or not certain characters are gay
is not of interest to you, pass those posts right by. At least
people are identifying that that's what they're talking about right
there in the subject line. It's a topic that may be ridiculous to
you, but obviously it isn't to other people.
