Or... snarky. :) He could have asked D-Dore.

Not at all. I've said all along that as further revelations come out, information
has to be re-evaluated. If Sirius was in Slytherin - and Snape, who we are
almost certain was Slytherin, remains good - then of course the Post-Riddle
Good Slytherin theory goes away.
Which just goes to show that courageous people with backbones can
overcome all that Slytherin propaganda. Too bad they are few and far
between in Slytherin.

Nah, I'm nothing if not flexible. Hagrid is an exaggerator at best. The vast
majority of dark wizards we've seen still came from House Slytherin. In fact,
there is only one we've seen that we are fairly sure isn't, and that is Pettigrew.

Oh please. First, if Hagrid had told him about Sirius, it wouldn't have been a
false absolute, because Hagrid would have told him otherwise. "They are bad
eggs, except for this one guy, who was a bad egg anyway"
So, the knowledge that ONE Gryffindor -- who came from a family of
Slytherins, by the way -- turned into a bad wizard would have been enough to
completely clear Harry's head of any doubts about his parents' killer, the
Malfoys, the fact that Ron's family was in Gryffindor and his OWN family was in
Gryffindor.
And he would have said, "Ah, hat, you do it."
And then again, the Hat merely said, "You'd do well in Slytherin." Not, "You're
going to Slytherin unless you speak up now, boy!"
We have no evidence the Hat wouldn't have done the Gryff thing anyway.
