>>> Yes, but one would have to be a fool to take money they just
transfigured straight to Gringott's, just as a muggle counterfeiter
would be a fool to just walk into the bank and deposit it. The key
would be to _spend_ it somewhere, and such that the spending would
reach several more levels before ever being deposited, to avoid it
being traced back to you...

Of course, it's much simpler to just conjure Leprechauns' gold, in any
case. I believe this was mentioned in one of the books<<<

Lady Macbeth:
That's usually how counterfeiters ARE caught, in the end. They DON'T take
it to the bank and they DO spend it - usually by paying for a can of pop
with a $20 bill or a three dollar shirt with a $50 bill. They then have a
fist full of good money and the counterfeit is passed into circulation. The
feds then have the fun job of discovering the counterfeit bill, tracing it
back through it's path and then setting up an operation to find the person
who's passing them around.

And, just like with the Leprechauns' gold, there are repercussions when the
forgery is discovered. The Weasley twins couldn't legally hold Bagman to
his payment to them, as they were gambling underage from the start.
However, the OTHERS he owed money to could - including the goblins. There
IS a reason Bagman up and fled the country when Harry and Cedric won the
Triwizard Cup together, after all. ~_^v
