Just thinking about your second problem -- on the one hand,
remember how Sirius was able to withstand the Dementors by turning
into his dog form -- he said they weren't able to get to him
mentally as much, so possibly same thing would apply to Dumbledore
as Hedwig.
I don't mind that so much, but if Dumbledore is Hedwig, how could he
have let all Harry's confusion, misunderstanding and rash actions go
on without intervening all year -- he seems unaware.
And last, if he is Hedwig, watching Harry, then he's there in
Harry's room on Privet Drive all summer instead of at Hogwarts,
which is hard enough to believe, and - why then do they need to set
up a guard schedule (e.g. Mundungus watching Harry) - which can then
be breached when Dung takes off when Dumbledore is there watching
him all the time?
Maybe Hedwig is an agent of Dumbledore, but not actually him.
