I don't think he was surprised. The way i see it, he didn't want
Harry to say that. He definitely knew Lucius was a DE and after the
stunt he pulled in CoS it wasn't that big a stretch but my guess is
that either because Lucius is Snape's source of information or
because Snape has a personal relationship with him (friends?
relatives? hell, even lovers considering Sirius' lapdog comment) or
a combination of the two, Snape didn't want it known that Lucius is
a Death Eater. After all, Lucius is Draco's dad and Snape seems to
treat the boy as though he were his own son. Whether he's for real
or faking it, my take is that he didn't want that little fact
revealed in front of Fudge.

Are we sure they're really friends? For all we know, he's using
Lucius.

For all we know, he did. Why wasn't Harry warned? When has warning
Harry not to go somewhere ever worked?

He said "One who I believe has left me forever". As in, "i'm not
sure". My guess, Snape gave him some sort of evidence that he really
is on his side. But since JKR hasn't given us much info on the
subject, I really don't know. I suspect we'll find out in Book 6.
But if he's not spying I really wonder what he's got to report. Or
what was that thing he told Harry about finding out Voldemort's
plans being his job.

Why the hell should he LOVE HARRY? Seriously, I guess the Pensieve
scene is a pretty good indication. He can't accept that Harry is not
James.

I sure hope not. Such a cliche.

That would be a pathetic twist. I could see Snape perhaps faltering
on where his allegiance stands in the books to come but not having
been eeevil all along. Too many twists and turns are never a good
thing and we've spent too long suspecting Snape.

And no. Not much of a twist. For being a Legilimens and what have
you, Dumbledore seems to be dumb as a brick sometimes (Fake!Moody
anyone?) So it wouldn't really surprise me if Snape double crosses
him and he hadn't seen it coming. Would have been quite in character
for good old Albus, really.
