(I'm not saying he WOULD have used it against LV in Oop, but maybe his
good nature doesn't allow him to use it.)
When Bellatrix said "you have to mean it", I think she was refering to
the matter at hand, the Cruciatus curse, rather than Avada Kedavra.
cruciatas has only one purpose, to hurt someone worse than most of us
can imagine. As Moody (well, Crouch, but I suspect he knew what he was
talking about) said, you have to get up a lot of power to make Avada
Kedavra work, and in the HPverse, power usually is tied to emotions.
I suppose what I am trying to say here is that I see only one purpose
for Cruciatus, and that purpose is an evil one (and that is a heavy
statement for me, who tries to see everything in grey). Avada Kedavra,
on the other hand, may not need malicious delight in pain to sustain
it. After all, Harry's righteous anger did hurt Bellatrix for a while.
Perhaps purity of purpose and the need for Voldemort to die (or
rather, the perception in the caster's mind) would be enough to get up
the emotions to power the spell.
Personally, I don't think Dumbledore will ever use Avada Kedavra,
though I am certain he is able to.
