Several people have brought up this point, but I wonder about it. After all, we're seeing all this through Harry's eyes (or glasses, as may be). We all know that Harry isn't one for building himself up. There are a couple spots where I see that it might actually be otherwise. Some of these have been brought up before, but I don't think in this particular thread or all together.
He says in OOP, when Hermoine is trying to talk him into teaching DADA, that Hermoine always beats him in DADA tests, which isn't true.
When Hermoine is looking over Harry and Ron's astronomy essays in OOP, Ron's is in need of many changes and a whole new conclusion. Harry simply has mice instead of ice with no other mistakes.
When Harry and Ron are measuring essay lengths, Harry doesn't seems to need any last minute scribblings nor does he try to persuade Hermoine to let him copy. Ron does both these things. (Sorry, I can't remember which book this is in.)
I don't mean this as Ron-bashing. I like Ron. I'm just pointing out that Harry might be better at his studies in spite of this comment, due to his usual underevaluation of himself. Of course he can say he's better at Quiddich in spite of his habit of not thinking much of himself because he (at this point in the book, at least) is on the team and Ron is not. By the end of the book, I wonder if he'd still think he's better at Quiddich. My guess is not.
