Let's not forget that Molly is constantly harassing Bill about his long 
hair and earrings. I believe that the wizarding world parallels the muggle 
world in these social norms. Really old wizards like Dumbledore are 
accepted by everyone due to age and respect earned, but younger wizards 
fall in to the "rebel" or "rock star" category.
