Wasn't me who said this, but I have. My Chem 1 teacher was the best thing
that ever happened to me (even if I hated Chem and I still hate her!). The
effectiveness of a teacher like Snape has been discussed many, many times
(occasionally in connection/parallels with Hagrid). What makes a teacher good for one
person makes the teacher horrible for another kid.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the usual anti-Snape argument "Oh! Snape was mean
to Harry at their very first meeting!" Boo-hoo. This could be the pancakes
talking, but I don't give a damn about that. Oh yeah, it's the pancakes
talking and they're not finished yet: Everyone keeps bitching about how Snape can't
put anything behind him even though he's old enough. Well, an old man once
told me that "15 is well past the age of reason". Doesn't that mean that Harry
is old enough to ignore Snape?

So what if Snape hates Harry and Sirius and Remus? He's allowed. It's a
free country (um...does anyone use that phrase in Britain? That might be another
Americanism...sorry about that). Snape can hate Harry if he wants to. It
might not be right in people's minds, but Snape's free to hate whoever he wants.
I don't remember anyone saying that Snape doesn't hate Harry (someone might
have, but I can't remember it at this point in time, so if you have said this,
I apologize!).
