I don't think that Hermione and Harry became closer than Ron
and Harry at all. Harry went through a lot in this last book and he
was pretty distant with everyone. Hermione and Ron have
different roles as far as their friendship with Harry goes. Ron is
his first real friend and more of an emotional support for Harry.
Ron is the first person he's likely to confide in - but since
Harry's
emotions were on high he felt like he couldn't a lot of the time
and just brooded (as teenagers tend to do). Hermione is his
rational support - the 'voice of reason'. Harry can be pretty hot
headed and spontaneous and Hermione is not afraid to
question or challenge him (Ron, forever loyal, usually just goes
along with him). I believe Hermione's role was bigger because
Harry was even more rebellious than usual and Hermione had
her work cut out for her.
