I have considered the idea of JKR taking us back to the days of the 
map writers.  C.S.Lewis did such a "prequel" very effectively in the 
6th book of The Chronicles of Narnia (although some confused 
publishers now consider this the "1st" book).  And JKR has said in a 
couple interviews that C.S.Lewis is one of her favorite authors.  
Unfortuately, for that very same reason, I don't think she will ever 
do it.  I do think, however, that in book 6 we can expect some more 
flashbacks.  It seems there is still a lot of the past that is very 
valid in developing the present plots and characters.
