I posted on OT about the size of the school.  I'd always assumed that 
the five boys in Harry's dormitory could not be the only Harry-year 
Gryffindor boys; they were just the four that Harry roomed with, and 
therefore saw most of.  Since we see the events and people through 
Harry's eyes, he would probably not notice these others, so neither 
would we.  In my high school, there were many kids that were in my 
year, but I did not have classes with them, so did not know them very 
well.  

This idea did not receive popular approval, but when I read the above 
passage, I took it as sort of confirmation.   I never thought that 
Seamus was asking to be transferred out of Gryffindor--just to one of 
the other fifth-year dormitory rooms that must exist somewhere.
