I think Fawkes used to belong to Griffindor and is the key to his 
legacy.  That's why he helped HP in CoS, his tail is the core of 
HP/LV's wand, and is the Mascot for the Order.  If LV is Slitherin's 
hier, then perhaps HP is the heir of Griffindor and why his folks 
lived in Godric's hollow.  Just a hunch.  :)
