See, I think that since he has no *happiness* or *hope*, that is why
he is immune to the dementors and, therefor, his natural ally. The
dementors may "feel" him as one of their own kind. Only a wizard with
power that they understnad and may then obey.

This is, IMO, referring to Harry's lack of training and therefore the
confidence and knowledge to fight him. He has the *power*. He just
does not have the knowledge of how to use and weild it.

I think JKR has stated that wizards have a longer lifespan than
muggles and so I don't think of the 150 year old Dumbledore as
being "unnaturally" old for his kind. (Although, I will admit to be
surprised at how much he kicked Voldemort Arse in the battle at the
Ministry!!)
For some reason, I have had the impression or notion that Phoenixes
are very indepntdent and you just cannot go ut and buy one at a
store. I feel they are more like wands, where one may *choose* to be
a companion of a wizard/witch of their choice. And, yes, I can see
Fawkes choosing to be with Harry if and when Dumbledore goes on to
The Next Great Adventure.
