Not a "scalawag", per se, but a literary reference for Percy/Percival takes 
us back to the Grail legend.  Percival was one of the three knights who 
attained the Grail - & it killed him.  IMHO, Percy's personal "Grail" is power & 
status (remember that little book he was reading in Diagon Alley?  "Prefects Who 
Gained Power"?)  My guess is he attains the power he seeks - & it winds up 
killing him.
