Ron does have pride, but his pride is not always for the right
reasons, like when he and Harry weren't talking in GoF. Ron was
wrapped up in himself at the time and didn't make the effort to hear
Harry out about how Harry's name ended up in the goblet. Ron's anger
towards Hermione at the Yule Ball was also a display of foolish pride,
IMO.
Unfortunately, Ron is also quite insecure. It is possible that his
mediocre grades are due to more than just teen boy laziness; many kids
don't study because they are worried about failing even if they make
an effort. When it comes to girls, aside from being pulled in by
Fleur's Veela ways, Ron allows Harry to ask someone to the Yule Ball
for him. We have also discussed Ron's discomfort with his family's
economic status many times here, but that is something that blows
Ron's confidence again and again.
I can't see Ron choosing to follow the dark side, but I can see him
making impulsive decisions that may hurt him or others. Mostly, I see
Ron under Imperius, unable to fight it. Ron may be a lot of things,
but strong is not one of them. Maybe we'll be surprised in OoP,
though.
