Hello everyone,
I know it's a little close to the book release to be posting
theories and thoughts that are as random as this, but oh well! I hope
this hasn't been discussed to death, but I didn't see anything on it
in the archives. Also, I have been using all my self control to keep
from listening to the audio clip. If this is disproven in any
spoilers I don't know about, please ignore me.
I've been thinking for a while about what parts each member of the
Trio played in each of the books. Let's review, shall we?

PS/SS:
Harry, Ron, and Hermione pretty much solved the mystery (that
Voldemort was going to try to get the stone) together. From the
forbidden corridor, they each played important roles. Harry jumped
onto the Devil's Snare *first*, then Ron, then Hermione. *Hermione's*
knowledge of Herbology then saved them, at least after she remembered
she was a witch. ;) Then *Harry* used his seeker ablity to catch the
key that led to the giant chess board where *Ron* proved himself in
the chess match. After passing a knocked out troll, *Hermione's*
logic came into play as she solved the riddle. Finally, *Harry* faced
Quirrelmort.
I pretty much see them as playing a fairly equal part in this
book. Sure, Harry was stuck with Voldemort, but he wouldn't have
reached him without Ron's sacrifice and Hermione's logic. Ron and
Hermione both tried to go with Harry, but due to daring chess games
and near-empty potion bottles, it was impossible.
CoS:
Here, due to *Harry's* ability to talk to snakes coupled with
other clues, *Hermione* manages to figure out the monster is a
basilisk. Of course, she doesn't play much of a role as far as the
plot goes after that, since she's petrified. It's *Harry* and *Ron*
who enter the Chamber with Lockhart (much to their chagrin). Anywho,
even though they're separated, it's still pretty much a team effort.
I mean, there really wasn't too much Ron could do to help Harry with
a wall of rocks blocking him.
Thus, in CoS, I feel Ron and Harry had most of the action, while
Hermione was frozen in the hospital wing.
PoA:
*Ron* is dragged into the Shrieking Shack and the other two
follow. While there, they all pretty much play equal parts,
especially where Snape is concerned. Harry does want to kill Sirius,
but as he didn't, I don't think it's *too* important. Once they
leave, however, and Peter attacks Ron, Ron is pretty much out of the
running for the rest of the book. It's *Hermione* and *Harry* who
rescue Beaky and Sirius. Here, Hermione is just as important as
Harry, up until the dementor scene at least. But hey, that's why it's
called Harry Potter, not Hermione Granger, and the Prisoner of
Azkaban. ;-)
In the third book, in my eyes at least, Harry and Hermione are
running the show. Ron's busy being knocked out with a broken leg in
the hospital wing.
GoF:
Now this book has about 50 sub-plots, but the main one is the
Triwizard Tournament. *Harry* is chosen as the 4th champion. *Harry*
goes through all the tasks. *Ron* and *Hermione* may help him prepare
as much as they can... It's hard to concentrate on where to land when
you're unconscious, as Ron so sarcastically tells us...but overall
GoF focuses on *Harry*. *Harry* meets the Dark Lord. *Harry* sees
Cedric die. Pretty much everything happens to *him*.
Therefore, in GoF, we are all focusing on Harry. Sure, Hermione
and Ron try to be there, but they just weren't there as much as they
were in books 1-3.
OoP:
Here is my speculation. Up until now, they've all played fairly
equal roles. The only exception is that Harry is with Ron (CoS) and
Hermione (PoA) sharing the lime-light. I think since GoF was so Harry-
oriented that, in order to keep things balanced, Ron and Hermione
will be playing a much bigger part in OoP than previously. Perhaps
they'll have to go help rescue Harry or something. At the very least
I think they'll all be balance as they were in SS. Personally, I hope
to see a lot more of them! :-)
  There you have it.
