Me:
I tend to doubt that Snape was ever a killer. I doubt that DD would
trust him as much as he does if he had killed anyone. I think Snape
just got "mixed" into the dream, largely because Harry associated him
with the pain in his scar. In an earlier post, which I'm too lazy to
track down just now, someone else established that Quirrel's turban
was turned to Harry at the time he had the pain, but he was looking
at Snape. I think Snape just got the part of bad guy in the dream
because of that association.
For my two knuts, I think Snape just wants somebody to acknowledge
his role in saving Harry. He wants somebody, somewhere, to pay
attention to what he has done/is doing on Harry's behalf. And nobody
cares, least of all Harry himself. It seems that guy just can't get
*no* respect.
