Okay, but here's the thing. It is stated multiple times that the Grangers
are muggles and that Hermione is a muggle born ("mud blood" if you wanna get
nasty) and the one thing I have learned from all my HP reading and research
if believe it if JKR says it more than once and from multiple sources. And
doesn't the narrator say she a muggle born too. (I don't have my books
nearby.) All the more reason to believe it.
And why does Hermione have to do magic outside of school? If they go through
the Leaky Cauldron then someone there can open the gateway for them.
Although there is a possibility that there is an exception to the rule for
those who are muggle born. Or maybe for just while they are in an only
Wizarding area.
