I'm coming to this thread a little late, but I wanted to add a few
things because this has been a pet theory of mine for a while for a
few
reasons.
1.) The first time Ron meets Harry, the boy that is to become his
best friend and a major focus in his life, what happens? They end up
with a compartment full of candy and Ron explains the types of
wizarding candy to Harry. It is interesting to me that Dumbledore is
known for having passwords involving muggle candy.
2.) Also, on the Hogwart's Express, the first spell we see Ron
attempting is a transfiguratuion spell on his rat. Now, it doesn't
work for reasons that we discover later in the books, but isn't it
interesting that Dubledore was a transfigurations prof (correct me if
I am wrong-- I can't find any of my books right now. Grr!).
3.) The flashback in CoS-- Dumbledore had red hair.
4.) Stuff that has been talked about before-- like how Dubledore
seems to be inside their heads. Especially during CoS when Harry lies
to him. Dubledore does not seem to pleased. If Dubledore is Ron, that
would make sense, he would be ticked off not only that Harry is lying
to him, but that Harry is playing the hero rather than seek outside
help (something that might get him in trouble later?).
There are a bunch of other little things but without my books on hand
(the chess set that they all assume was McGonagal's work in SS/PS for
instance) I would rather not try and remember them. Anyway, I think
if I read it with that in mind, things start to make some sense...
And what a *neat* idea-- the Sidekick as Mentor.
