books, but my sole reason is this.
In PS/SS when HRH go in search of the stone DD takes off for
London. He later tells Harry that he got all the way to London
before he decided to turn around and come back to the school.
He also tells Harry that he arrived just in time to save him.
IMHO, If DD were Ron, DD would know how close it was for
Harry and never would have gone all the way to London. Ron
wouldn't put Harry in that much danger.<<<<
But that's a typical time paradox - DD!Ron would have gone to
London without any worries, because he already knew that
everything was going to be okay and that him going away was
needed in order to get rid of Quirrelmort.
The Barty Crouch affair works in a similar vein - Ron would never
see any necessity to go back in time if Voldemort wasn't
resurrected. In fact all of DD's omniscience and impotence - he
know that Riddle is evil, but doesn't do anything etc - can be
explained as Ron's attempt to *not* alter history until it is
needed.
