I dont see Voldy getting ANY benefit from hearing the prophecy. WHAT 
AM I MISSING?

Perhaps it's simply that Voldemort doesn't know what information the 
prophecy might have to offer.  I can certainly understand why he'd 
want to hear the whole thing!

IMHO understanding the reason for the need to guard the prophecy and 
the possible benefits to Voldemort if he hears the whole thing 
depends upon the explanation of what the prophecy actually means by 
one not being able to live while the other is alive. This IS new 
information.  They may have had reasons to wish to kill each other 
before, but this makes it clear that one must kill the other.
