Kirstini asked:
> So. Snape's secret mission at the end of GoF. Didn't ever find out
> what that was, did we?
Amanda answered:
"I thought we got a pretty strong hint; a couple of them. One, during
Occlumency (sp?) lessons, when Snape tells Harry it's not Harry's job to
tell them what the Dark Lord is telling his Death Eaters, Harry says "That's
your job, isn't it?" and Snape says yes. Sounds like he's gone back to
Voldemort, to me.
Also, we have had the conflict between Voldemort-the-lie-detector and Snape
having to fool him resolved. Voldemort is very good at Legilimens. Snape is
a superb Occlumens. So *both* of these are correct; Voldemort can detect
most lies, and Snape is one of the very few that can fool him.
Sounds like we have a really good idea what Snape's task was. Is."
Now me (Wendy):
In agreement with Amanda, it sounds like Snape has gone back to Voldemort.
There was one more clue that she forgot to mention (I'm sure she noticed it
while reading <g>): ARGH - I can't find the passage right now in the book,
but at one point where they're at Grimmauld Square, a comment is made about
Sirius sitting around the house while Snape is out there risking his life
every day. That made me think he's returned to Voldemort.
One thing I do worry about is that Snape was coming to the safe house and
was seen by Kreacher. I'm not really sure just what Kreacher can and can't
say (in other words, how far he can betray the trust of his master),
especially now that said master is dead. Makes me nervous that Snape's
secret may not be safe, unless Voldemort thinks Snape's playing
double-agent. Still, I'm worried by Kreacher for Snape, and for other
reasons as well.
Wendy,
Who is sad, but not shattered by Sirius' death, but after reading some of
the comments here by Sirius fans, is starting to worry how I'll feel if
Snape kicks it in a future book. No NO NO!
