Seven is a magical number in western mythology. It is associated with
luck and with power. The seventh son of a seventh son is almost always
going to be powerful in a magical tale.
This is, of course, a modern non-sexist fable, so our seventh child is
now a female. Ginny gets a number of mentions as being 'small but
powerful', particularly from Fred and George. These two, despite being
pranksters, are given the role of being truthful commentators in the
books.
So I always expected Ginny to play a much bigger part than just
'helpless little sister'. She also seems to be a great Quidditch
player :-)
