Just a few quick thoughts. As our family was reading aloud OOP this
weekend, we noticed the different "role" of Lupin. He had the key to
open the door at 12 Grimauld (other OOPs seemed to ring the bell!) he
was the one who silenced Sirius during the Molly/Sirius row, he was
first in the door with the Molly/Boggart, and the one whose shoulder
she cried on, he was the one who comforted her re:Percy's returned
jumper. He seems to be, to some extent, the "prefect" of the little
group going in and out of the Black house. This is a bit of a
different role from the mild and somewhat pathetic figure in POA.
Except for (perhaps) two mentions of his looks, and the hospital
scene, his "condition" isn't mentioned - not even in a "Where's
Remus? Oh, it's the full moon." kind of way.

Another possibility come in with Sirius' "heartlessness" toward the
Weasleys when Arthur was bitten - he said, (something like) "There
are some things worth dying for." I'm wondering if part of joining
the OOP is a pledge to give your life for the cause. (This could be
what haunts Molly, to some extent.) All the members, being fully
prepared to die or see death, aren't going to let themselves
be "phased" by it.

Though, the Lupin we've met so far POA-OOP shows little emotion in
general. I'm wondering if he is simply a stoic, and JKR is keeping
him "in character" even with his friend's death.

One interesting note we caught (using Galadriel Water's supposition
of "When Ron's joking he's usually right") he joked about his dad
becoming MOM! Hmmm!?!
