Yet Lupin did not seem to care much. Well, I take that back-- he did
seem upset immediately after he saw Sirius fall through the veil. But
he wasn't nearly as upset as I expected him to be. I mean, this was
the *last* of his best friends, except for the traitor, of course. I'm
not saying that I hate Lupin, or I think he's evil and heartless, but
this bothered me because I couldn't understand *why*. When Harry
arrives at King's Cross and meets the group, Lupin doesn't say or
communicate anything to Harry other than a greeting and "Take care,
Harry. Keep in touch." WHY NO MENTION OF SIRIUS? Even a meaningful
glance would have helped. I can only conclude two things, which is
that either JKR forgot that Lupin and Sirius were friends, or she
omitted Lupin's reaction on purpose to compound on the seeming
pointlessness and preventability of Sirius' death. Perhaps, also, she
is saving the conversation between Lupin and Sirius for book 6, which
would mean that we haven't seen the last of Padfoot :)

I think we may have discussed something similar to this before. The story is
told from Harry's POV which means he would not have seen Lupin's grief,
right? By the time we are in the station and Harry is getting ready to
leave, Harry still has dealt with his own pain...he still hasn't really
accepted Sirius's death. So he doesn't take note or even mention anything
himself. I think Lupin wants to say something but is following Harry's lead
on the subject. I do agree that the conversation Will come up in book 6. I
think the first thing that will be resolved in book 6 will be Sirius's death
and I think will get to see how it affected each character as they try to
comfort Harry.

Just my 2 Knuts,
Jenn

PS this list is going sooooo fast I just can't keep up! :-)
