Hi all...
I'm a newbie who has been lurking for a while now. I was going to
post after I caught up with all the digests (I had over 40 when I
checked my messages) but I think I will never get caught up :)
Like many people I am still reeling over this book but here is my
first post:

1. I noticed something odd about Dumbledore's middle names. One of
them is Brian! (I apologize for not having the page number but my
book has already been borrowed. This occurs in the scene when Harry
is on trial for the unauthorized use of magic against the
dementors). Why Brian? Doesn't it seem like a muggle name? Is this
why Dumbledore is so tolerant of muggles and non-human creatures?
Perhaps because he is also a muggle, he understands the prejudice
that half-bloods have to face in the Wizarding World. Just wondering
what people think.
Of course as I write this, it occurs to me that Prof. Umbridge's
middle name is Jane. Another muggle-like name.
2. I really felt that JKR had great potential to write some
dramatic scenes during Snape's tutoring sessions with Harry. I
didn't like that Harry stooped to snooping in the Pensieve when
Snape left the office. I thought it was great that Snape got an
idea of how rough Harry's life has been. I figured that Snape might
be nicer to Harry considering he had a rough time with his own
family. I was hoping that Harry would get more insight into Snape's
life. He did get plenty of information but it seems like his
snooping has only further alienated Snape. I can't blame Snape. I
wouldn't like it if someone snooped through my private thoughts. I
also was disappointed by the title of this chapter...Is this really
Snape's worst memory? I mean it is pretty bad from a 15 year old's
point of view but he is in his 30's now!
Anyway...all the rest of my thoughts have already been discussed.
So I am off to start my second reading :)
