Hey ;)), [this is the spoiler-free line]

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but here's another
analysis of Snape's Worst Memory. I;ve been reading plenty about the
attributes of Pensieves, on whether or not he would have had to see
James doodle LE on his page or not, etc. (incidentally, it would be
quite an awesome item if you could put a memory in the pensieve and
then proceed to go in it time and again, viewing the situation from
all different directions, hearing everyone speak their minds, etc.
Quite the /amazing/ item, actually)

But, though I'd love to talk about all that as well, that's not the
specific cause for this post here. The reason is, namely, the houses
of MWPP. Please forgive my inaccuracies, but I don't have the book
handy and have only read it once (Though I'm starting on the second
time shortly). If I recall, Snape's memories took place during and
right after an OWL. I'm not sure if it was mentioned what the subject
matter was.

Anyway: Snape, James and Sirius are all seen sitting quite close
together, while Lily is seen nowhere. Put on top of this that during
Harry&Co's OWLs, none of the other houses are even present, the fact
that Wormtail is nothing but Slytherin material ("What could be
gained by opposing him?") and the fact that Lily and James called
each other "Potter" and "Evans" respectively, instead of James and
Lily, at least leads us to have reasonable doubt, methinks, as to
James' house. We know for a fact that Lily was in Gryffindor, but
James?

By constrast: The movie does have James in Gryffindor (though it has
him as seeker as well), James /does/ show the qualities for
Gryffindor, it would be great if Sirius would manage to escape his -
clearly Slytherin- family and become a Gryffindor by his choices and
as for Wormtail, well, he /did/ take it upon him to become an
Animagus and spent quite some time in danger to be around Lupin
during his changes.

All in all, I'd say that it'd be quite a shock if James was in any
house but Gryffindor, and that he really does fit in the house. But
that I think there's at least some reason for doubt. I'd love, more
than most other things, for people to completely overthrow all my
arguments and prove to me that I"m wrong.

Cheers,
Alon :)
