Marauders Map: Harry might have picked it up from Crouch!Moody's office 
or might have been given to him by Dumbledore (just like he gives him 
back his invisibility cloak in book 1) off-camera. We don't get told 
*everything* that goes on, after all (when was the last time Harry 
needed to go to the bathroom?). Unfortunate, because this is slightly 
important, but hardly earth-shaking.

Head Boy: Prefects don't necesarily become Head Boys, since there are 
only two at a time, while there are 8 prefects per year (24 in total). 
Having spoken with several British people, they have told me that Head 
Boy is a honorific title, and IMO in Hogwarts it seems tied to academic 
achivement. Logically, a prefect is the most logical to take it, but if 
it doesn't, in fact, have responsabilities attached, James was 
intelligent enough to grasp the honour.
