Me:
I agree with you on the fact that they admited that James attacked 
Snape and that he was a bully and a bit conceited when he was young. 
I wanted to point out, as I have since seen in other posts so I 
don't mean to be repetitive on the board, that it is improbable that 
Snape overheard their total conversation, saw what James wrote on 
his paper (LE) and other things like that and that he may have 
filled in some gaps with some teenage angst wherein he did nothing 
wrong. (He probably doesn't see calling Lily a mud-blood as wrong 
since he is, to use a Weasley phrase...a slimy git.)
