Notice that it only says that Slytherin WANTED to only admit
purebloods. That is the ideal. It does not say he WOULD only admit
purebloods. How far was he willing to slip from that ideal is the
question.
If he only accepted pure bloods, Slytherin house would have been at
a huge disadvantage population-wise. Not only are there very few
true pure-bloods, but even fewer of them had the other "qualities"
to get into Slytherin.
Hitler only wanted Aryan types in the SS. In reality he accepted
anybody with a pulse, especially towards the end.
