Let's take a look at who will be Head Boy and Girl in Harry's seventh
year.

Head Girl: Should be Hermione, no contest. She's got the grades,
she's got the leadership capability, she's got the favor of every
teacher except Snape. The only other possible candidate is Pansy
Parkinson, but we'd have to know more about her.

So... we know that James and Lily were Head Boy and Girl together,
and I believe when Percy was Head Boy in PoA, it is implied that
Penelope Clearwater is Head Girl.

The other Head Boys we know of, Bill and Tom Riddle, have remained
single. Bill is probably playing the field. Riddle is just waiting
for that Special Someone, I would imagine.

Therefore, we do have a bit of history with Head Boy and Girl getting
together, which actually makes a bit of sense. People with the
dedication and diligence to reach that level are likely to share some
common interests and priorities.

So, who will be Head Boy in Year 7? The candidates so far:

Harry: Grades are a bit lax, but he's got the most practical, real-
world experience perhaps of any student in Hogwarts history. Popular,
for the most part, and has the Quidditch skill to show he's well-
rounded in extracurricular activities. Teaching DADA class shows
leadership ability.

Ron: Grades also lax, but also has a ton of practical experience. Has
the pedigree, with two other Head Boys in the family, and also may be
a stud Quidditch player by year 7. Lacking in leadership, but chess
skills indicate good head for strategy. Already prefect.

Draco: Grades probably better than Harry and Ron (I still say it's
implied in CoS when Lucius rags on Draco for letting Hermione beat
him that Draco is near the top mark level) and certainly has
leadership skills, as evidenced by his dominance over Slytherin in
his year. Usually stinks against Gryffindor, but probably decent
Quidditch player overall. Poor practical experience. Runs screaming
like coward or ends up a slug or a ferret whenever he tries to use
magic against someone. Already prefect.

Neville: The growth of Neville between the end of year 4 and the end
of year 5 is astounding. Grades seem on the upswing, picked up a lot
of practical knowledge and is growing in popularity. No leadership
experience or extracurricular experience to speak of, though.

Ernie MacMillan: Dark horse we know little about, but he's a
Hufflepuff prefect. He seems to be the de facto spokesman for
Hufflepuff in his year and notice how even the gossipy Gryff girls,
Lavender and Parvati, shut up when he makes a point of supporting
Harry's view of Lord Voldemort? Not sure if he plays Quidditch or
not. I need to wrap this up and I can't find the Hufflepuff-Gryff
match in the book. No practical experience to speak of.

So there you go. Hermione's future love is in that pack. We could
know more about others in year 6, but I think we can safely rule out
Crabbe and Goyle.

Speaking of matchmaking, Dean Thomas broke the CODE!

You do NOT go out with your roommate's little sister without letting
him know first. Ron now has the right, under guy law, to say, "Face
or gut?" and then belt Dean in whichever one he picks.

-- And yes, Face Or Gut would be a great band name.
