Ginny can't see the Thestrals - I think you're mixing her up with Luna. 
Remember when the six kids flew them to the MoM? Harry, Neville, and 
Luna had no problem getting on the beasts because they could see them, 
but Hermione, Ron, and Ginny had a hard time.
