> Everyone here has made good points.I want Sirius to not be dead
too, .... Dumbledore says "It is my fault that
Sirius died", meaning ... Hagrid also says to Harry that "Sirius died
in battle, and thats the way he would have wanted to go".
To make a perfectly heartless musical comment about Sirius (to the
tune of "Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead" from the W. of Oz:
"He's gone
where the Potters go,
yo ho
yo ho
yo ho"
But all is not gloom! Harry has been able to see his parents' images,
and in fact, there have been times when they seem to respond to him
(the fight in which Cedric dies) ... I really think Sirius is in the
same place as Lily and James and may be able to interact w/Harry in a
similar - if heartbreakingly limited - way.
JKR is all about telling it as it is, and as children grow older, the
fear of losing their parents becomes more real. There is also the
eternal theme of the boy left all alone in the world.
Now orphaned of his bio folks and his only godparent, Harry reaches a
premature version of independent manhood. He must determine on whom
he can rely: the Hogwarts staff? the wonderful little "claim-family"
that surrounds him at the train station and sets the Dursleys
straight?
He is on his own to a degree that both tantalizes and horrifies 15-
and 16-year-olds and older. Sirius, sadly, *can't* come back and
have Harry mature as it seems JKR is planning to have him mature.
