So do I! This is perhaps simply my subbornness--I absolutely
refuse to believe that Percy is evil. :)

But I really don't see Percy making a complete 180 in terms
of his priorities. I think his reaction to Ron, for example,
after the second task shows how important family is to him.
Despite what Ron may think (frankly, I don't think too
highly of Ron's assessments of his siblings), I don't think
Percy is driven completely by ambition. I think he was in
Gryffindor for a reason--what he ultimately values is
bravery, chivalry, and "what's right."

I really think that last one is why Percy was sorted into
Gryffindor. Much like Molly, he's preoccupied with "what's
right" and what the rules are (and with what's
"appropriate"). And while I think that preoccupation could
lead Percy down to Fudge's way, I don't know....Something
about it just doesn't feel right.

Personally, I think Percy is a spy of Dumbledore's. I doubt
that the Order has anyone in Fudge's inner circle, so Percy
would be a perfect choice. Of course, he would have to break
off relations with his family to be convincing. And he would
have to break off relations for real--Arthur and Molly
probably wouldn't be able to fake it.

I just think that there must be more to Percy's attitude
than simply "he's an ambitious git." Maybe he's not a spy,
but I don't think it's as clear-cut as the Weasleys seem to
think.

Or maybe I'm just in denial.
